WORKSHOP

Connecting with your heart’s intention (Sankalpa)

Wednesday January 29, 6:30-8:30pm

Discover and nourish your heart’s resolution for 2025 in this two-hour workshop that includes gentle yoga, reflection, yoga nidra, and expressive arts!

Typical New Year’s resolutions are decisions to change, sometimes made from the notion that we’re not good enough or that we need to do something to make us “better” or more worthy. Yoga philosophy offers an alternative approach—“Sankalpa” or heart’s intention—identifying a quality or way of being that you want to embrace and embody. Your Sankalpa provides clarity about how you wish to live and can be a powerful touchstone in navigating life’s challenges.

This workshop offers an opportunity to connect with your Sankalpa through gentle yoga, time for reflection, guided meditation (yoga nidra), and creation of an “Intention Tile” to seal in the seed of your intention. This small canvas you design can then be displayed in your home or office as a reminder to return to your Sankalpa regularly. Participants will also receive a recording of the guided Sankalpa meditation to use at home.

Offered on the Lunar New Year, this workshop provides an opportune time to tap into your own inner wisdom and heart’s resolution as we enter a new cycle. The session will be led by Lori Wieder, LAPC, C-IAYT, Counselor and Yoga Therapist at The Healing Room, and Amy Frank, artist, counseling degree candidate with a concentration in Art Therapy from PennWest University (formerly Edinboro University), and Counseling Intern at The Healing Room.

All art supplies will be provided. Participants will receive a link to the guided meditation to access anytime. The gentle yoga and yoga nidra practices will be offered on the floor; accommodations can be made as needed. Space is limited.

Sacred Sounds: Music & Mindfulness - SINGLE CLASS
$20.00

Sacred Sounds: Music & Mindfulness

Fridays 5:30-7:30 pm, Feb. 7-March 14

An exploration into the power of sound to reset the nervous system and unlock transformative healing. Achieve calming balance through the combination of music and mindfulness This group incorporates simple drumming, rhythmic exercises and mindfulness practice into a fun therapeutic experience of connection and emotional regulation and expression. No experience is necessary to participate. Instruments will be provided but feel free to bring your own as well. Groups led by Josh Crownover, LAPC.

Benefits of drumming:

  • Stress Reduction: The rhythmic nature of drumming helps lower stress levels by reducing cortisol (the “stress hormone”) and increasing endorphins.

  • Emotional Expression: Drumming provides a nonverbal outlet for emotions that may be difficult to articulate otherwise. It can also help to soothe and calm your nervous system

  • Community Building: Group drumming creates a sense of belonging, togetherness, and connection with others, enhancing social-emotional development.

  • Mindfulness: . Music can fully engage our senses and help us slow down and focus on the present moment. The focus required to create music promotes present-moment awareness, a key component of mindfulness practices.

  • Increases brain activity- Making music can help with problem solving and with creativity. It also helps your brain release dopamine-This impacts mood, thinking and behavior

Benefits of mindfulness:

  • Participation in music-based mindfulness can help improve mood, relieve anxiety, reduce pain, and improve a greater overall sense of well-being.

  • Mindfulness brings about various positive psychological effects, including reduced psychological symptoms and emotional reactivity, and improved behavioral regulation.

  • Consistent mindfulness practice is associated with fewer PTSD symptoms, depressive symptoms, physical symptoms, and addiction issues such as cravings.

  • Mindfulness-based treatments may also be effective in restoring connectivity between large-scale brain networks among individuals with PTSD.

  • Mindfulness-based therapy has been shown to be effective as a treatment for addictions & for aiding in relapse prevention.
